Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) is the one and only public university which gives the environment of private university with it’s unique feature. It was established in 8th June 2008. It is situated in the green landscape of Mirpur Cantonment. It was established by Bangladesh Armed Forces as the 29 th public university of Bangladesh. Ex Chief of Bangladesh Army staff General Moeen U Ahmed inaugurated BUP. The motto of BUP is “Excellence through Knowledge”.

Admission Requirement for BUP Admission:
Faculty of Arts and Social Science (FASS)
There are six departments under Faculty of Arts and Social Science (FASS). These are:

Admission requirements in any Program of Faculty of Arts and Social Science (FASS) :
- A candidate must pass SSC/equivalent and HSC/equivalent examination in any discipline/ group.
- Candidates of Science Group must have GPA 4.50 in SSC/equivalent and GPA 4.25 in HSC/equivalent examination.
- Candidates of Business Studies Group must have GPA 4.25 in SSC/equivalent and GPA 4.00 in HSC/equivalent examination.
- Candidates of Humanities Group must have GPA 4.00 in SSC/equivalent and GPA 3.75 in HSC/equivalent examination.
- Candidates of General Certificate of Education (GCE) ‘O’ and ‘A’ level must pass in minimum 05 (five) and 02 (two) subjects respectively, having minimum 26.5 points in total based on following scale:

- Candidates of International Baccalaureate (IB) must pass in minimum 06 (six) subjects having minimum 30 points based on rating scale used in their curriculum (7, 6, 5, 4, 3). Rating of 1 and 2 will not be considered in point calculation.
- Candidates will have to sit for written test (MCQ) of 100 marks. The marks distribution is as follows:
(a) General Knowledge – 30
(b) English – 40
(c) Bangla or Mathematics – 30 - Candidates applying for Department of Economics or Department of Disaster and Human Security Management as first choice must answer mathematics, English and General Knowledge of the question paper.
- Candidates applying for Department of Disaster and Human Security Management must be qualified from science group in SSC/equivalent examination. Candidates must have studied Higher Mathematics/Statistics in HSC/equivalent examination and obtained minimum ‘A-’ (A Minus) grade.
(10) Candidates applying for Department of Development Studiers/Public Administration/Sociology as first choice must answer Bangla, English and General Knowledge of the question paper. - Candidates applying for Department of English must have minimum ‘A-’ (A Minus) grade in English both in SSC/equivalent and HSC/equivalent examination. Candidates must answer Bangla, English and General Knowledge of the question paper.
- Candidates applying for Department of Economics must have minimum ‘A-’ (A Minus) grade in Economics/Accounting/Statistics/ Higher Mathematics either in SSC/equivalent or HSC/equivalent examination. Candidates of ‘O’ Level and ‘A’ Level must have minimum ‘C’ grade in any of the above mentioned subjects.
- Candidates passed ‘O’ Level/equivalent and ‘A’ Level/equivalent examination from abroad need to obtain “Equivalence Certificate” from equivalence committee of respective faculty, before applying.
